After their longest break between albums, Scottish alt-pop favorites CHVRCHES are back with“Roses,” their first new single in years and the start of a brand-new era for the band. The song trades some of the group’s signature synth-pop sparkle for a darker, more guitar-driven sound, pairing Lauren Mayberry’s unmistakable vocals with politically charged lyrics and an anthemic chorus. The band says they set out to push themselves creatively rather than revisit familiar territory, making “Roses” one of their boldest releases to date. [stereogum.com], [nme.com], [genius.com]
