If you’ve ever wanted to see just how much time goes in to making a hit song, then pay attention.

Local Natives’ “When Am I Gonna Lose You” is arguably the LA based band’s biggest song, fresh off their latest album Violet Street. The song has peaked at #16 off the Billboard Alternative charts and can be heard on 95X.

The song has also become a meme, as posted by the band on their own Twitter account a few months ago:

Now, Local Natives are taking you on an in depth journey to show the grueling process of how a song is created. They recently posted to YouTube 25 early versions of “When Am I Gonna Lose You” which show the song’s humble beginnings and how sounds and melodies changed over the course of several months. The band explains all this to Consequence of Sound.

Here’s the very first version of the song. You can check out all 25 versions of the song and how it transformed on Local Natives’ YouTube channel.

In the end, it all came down to this final version. If you haven’t checked out the music video, here it is for your viewing pleasure!
